Women's Tennis Wins First Match
The Centre College women's tennis team opened its 2007 season successfully with a 5-4 victory over Campbellsville University on Tuesday, March 6 in Campbellsville , KY.
The Lady Colonels began the day by splitting the six singles matches with wins at #1, #2, and #3 singles. Senior Sara DeSanctis beat Nelson at the #1 spot by winning in a third set match tiebreak 10-6. At the #2 spot, Molly Housley defeated Rice 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) while Ashley Flesher took down Clark at the #3 position 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). Sophomore Katy Justiss fought valiantly to take her match at #4 to a third set match tiebreak but fell to Swencki 10-5. Freshmen Whitney Davis and sophomore Melissa Mullins both made their debuts at the #5 and #6 spots, respectively but suffered their first collegiate losses.
In doubles play, Centre managed to win at both the #1 and #2 positions as DeSanctis/Housley and Flesher/Justiss triumphed 8-3 and 8-4, respectively to clinch the match.
The Lady Colonels (1-0) next play Rose-Hulman on Saturday, March 10 in New Albany , IN.
