Centre College track & field teams open season with win
DANVILLE, KY - The Centre College track & field teams started the season off with two victories at the 42 Annual Centre College Invitational. Despite adverse weather conditions, the men's team scored 245 points, while the women's team tallied 277 points.
Senior Adam Clark (‘07) led the way for the men's team as he finished first in the high jump (6'0”), long jump (19'7”) and the 110 hurdles (a pr of 16.68), fourth in the triple jump (38'1.5”), and helped the 4x100 team to a third place finish. Newcomer Kevin Phelps (‘07) won the javelin (147' 2”) in his first competition. Freshman Jason Parks (‘10), coming off an incredible Cross Country season, demonstrated his speed with a win in the cold and windy 1500m (4:20). Nick Judah (‘08) rolled to a victory and a top seed in the conference with a win in the 200m ( 23:38 ).
The women's side was led by newcomer Abby Jurewicz (‘10). The Posse Foundation Scholar won the high jump (4'6”) and was second in the long (14'3”) and triple jumps (30'1”). Two-time American Eileen Shilling (‘07) won the 5,000m ( 19:24 ). Ines Kevric (‘07) had a convincing win in her first 1500m ( 5:18 ) run.
The Centre College Track & Field teams will compete in an Intersquad meet next weekend ( 9 March 2007 ). The following week ( 17 March 2007 ) they will compete at the Rhodes College Open. |
