Rain and cold cannot stop Kevric from 12 year old school record

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The Centre College track & field teams braved rain and cold during competition this past weekend. The men's team finished fourth of eighteen despite not haveing top scorer, senior Adam Clark, while the women finished fourth of fifteen schools.

Ines Kevric ('07) finished second in the 1500 meter wit a time of 4:45. Kevric's time, which betters the 12 year old record by more than three seconds, replaced former track standout Debbie Finke, as the new fastest 1500 meter woman in Centre's history. Her time is only five seconds shy from a Division III National Qualifying Mark. Kevric followed up her record setting performance with another second place finish in the 800 meter (2:20), which replaces her previous time for the top spot in the latest SCAC standings. Not to be outdone, Eileen Schilling ('07) won the 10,000 meter run with a season best time (37:47) and put herself on top of the SCAC standings for the event. In the largely contested race, the Louisville native raced the clock, coming only seven seconds shy from a Division III National Qualifying Mark. The outstanding performances of Kevric and Schilling place them as two of the nation's top contenders for their respective events.

While no records were broken, the men's side demonstrated their fitness and abilities against a very tough field. Kevin Phelps (‘07) finished second for the second strait week in the Javelin (152'). Patrick Ley (‘08) in his first performance of the season finished second in the pole vault (11'6”). Josh Ware (‘10) jumped a season best mark (42'2”) on his way to a third place performance in the triple jump. Joey Polio (‘09) finished fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Jason Parks ('10) ran a personal best in the 800 meter dash (2:02) on his way to a sixth place finish.

The Centre College track & field teams will make another short trip as they compete next Friday night (20 April, 2007) under the lights at The Eastern Kentucky University Twilight Invitational.
