Track teams perform well at Berea
BEREA , Ky. Both the men's and women's teams garnered second place finishes, despite cold, rainy, and windy conditions.
On the track, Lauren McCafferty and Megan Miller finished first and second in the 5,000m (19:33 and 20:47 respectively). Bethany Pratt and Holly Overcash also finished first and second in the 3,000m steeplechase. The women's 4x800m relay (Jessica Droste, Andrea Heckman, Emily Deane, Haley Gray) finished first. In the ring, Samantha Thornburg finished first in the newly instituted hammer throw (93'09).
Like the women's distance team, the men's distance team excelled. In the 10,000m run, Chase Wilson finished first (33:48), while teammates John Schuler and Kendrick Newton were third (34:06) and fourth (37:49). In the 3,000m steeplechase Joey Polio finished second (10:15), while teammate Clinton Cahall fished one spot behind in third (10:31). Jason Parks was third in the 1500m (4:13). Aaron Hay lead the sprinters with a victory in the 100m (11.50), a third place showing in the 200m (23.59), and anchored the winning 4x200m team (Ned McCaster, Nick Judah, Mike Morrison, Aaron Hay). For the field events, James Bozarth finished second in the men's hammer with a school record throw (121' 04.5). Charles Mercy and Zack Upton had an exceptional day in the javelin as they finished first (148'05) and second (147'-05) respectfully.
The Centre Track & Field teams are on spring break next weekend, but will compete at the Rhodes Invitational in Memphis, Tenn. the weekend of March 29, 2008.
