Centre track teams fair well despite stiff winds and strong competition.

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. —The men's and women's track teams enjoyed strong performances at the University of the Cumberlands Invitational on Saturday April 12. The men's team was fifth out of nineteen teams, while the women were eight out of sixteen teams.

While strong winds produced slower times in the sprints and the distance events, many of the distance participants were still able to shine. John Schuler finished just ten seconds off the winning time in the 10,000m run (34:22.54). Jason Parks finished second in the 5,000m run with a new personal record in that event (15:39.32). Resident steeplechaser, Joey Polio finished third in the 3,000m steeplechase with a season best time (10:05.82).

Like the men's team, the women's team performed well in the distance events. In the 10,000m run Lauren McCafferty finished second by a mere twenty seconds for her season best time (41:38.18). Teammates Megan Miller and Holly Overcash finished fourth and fifth in the 10,000m (44:18.11 and 45:53.79) to net seventeen of the women's team thirty seven points. The women's 4x400m team (Ivy Chamness, Bethany Pratt, Andrea Heckman, Haley Gray) finished fourth with a season best time (4:30.08).

The Centre Track & Field teams will compete under the lights at the Eastern Kentucky University Twilight Meet on Friday, April 18, 2008 .
