Centre teams hit personal best under the lights.

RICHMOND , Ky. —The men's and women's team competed under the lights on Friday, April 18, 2008 at the Eastern Kentucky Track and Field Open. The meet did not have team scoring, which provided Centre's teams with the opportunity to focus on individual races.

Pat Ley built a lot of momentum going into the conference meet as he tied for first place in the pole vault with a personal best by over a foot and a half (12'7.5”). Pat had three solid attempts at the eight year old school record (13'1”) before bowing out of the event. Charles Mercy finished second in the shot with a personal best (43'10”), while teammate James Bozarth finished fifth with his personal best (41'5.75”). On the track Jason Parks ran a personal best in the 1500m (4:02.80), which was good enough for eighth. The women's relays faired well despite the tough competition. The 4x100m team (Kasey Jackson, Samantha Thornburg, Ivy Chamness, Ashley Ivey) finished sixth with a season best (54.34). The 4x400m team (Ivy Chamness, Bethany Pratt, Andrea Heckman, Haley Gray) finished fifth (4:32.55). Lauren McCafferty and Megan Miller finished sixth ( 20:35 ) and ninth ( 20:35 and a new pr) respectively in the 5,000m despite hot conditions.

The Centre Track & Field teams will finish the season at the Southern Colligate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by DePauw University on Friday, April 25 through April 26, 2008 .
