Colonels sweep first day of Centre Invitational
On the first day of the Centre College Volleyball Invitational, the Centre volleyball team swept a pair of matches defeating both LaGrange College and Wilmington College, Saturday, Sept. 16, in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels opened the day with their third straight win defeating LaGrange 30-28, 30-19, 30-28. Senior Kate Bennett (Louisville, Ky.) led Centre posting 15 assists, 10 digs, eight kills and two service aces.
Junior Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) notched 14 kills. Senior Megan McElveen (Cold Spring, Ky.) had 13 digs and two service aces, while freshman Kelly McCoy (Lewisville, Texas) added four blocks.
The Colonels then defeated Wilmington College in three games 30-18, 30-25, 31-29. Burger again led Centre in kills with 13 while also adding two blocks. Bennett led the team with 18 assists and two service aces and senior Ellie Exner (Durham, N.C.) chipped in 14 digs.
Centre will return to action Sunday, Sept. 17 for day two of the Invitational. The Colonels will first play Gettysburg College at 12:30 p.m. and then play Hanover College at 3 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
