Volleyball team drops four in MSJ Tournament
Playing against some of the top NCAA Division III schools in the country, the Centre College volleyball team fell four times in the College of Mount St. Joseph Tournament, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 29-30, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Colonels dropped matches to Baldwin Wallace College and Mount St. Joseph Friday and then returned Saturday to fall to Otterbein College and Heidelberg College.
Centre fell to Baldwin Wallace in three games 30-16, 30-12, 30-16. Later in the day, the Colonels fell to Mount St. Joseph, also in three games, 30-18, 30-26, 30-25.
Junior Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) paced the Centre on the day recording 20 kills in the two matches combined. Senior Kate Bennett (Louisville, Ky.) had seven kills, 45 assists and 10 digs and senior Megan McElveen (Cold Spring, Ky.) added 14 digs.
Saturday, the Colonels fell in three games to Otterbein 30-24, 30-22, 30-27, prior to falling to Heidelberg in four games 24-30, 30-14, 30-16, 30-28.
Burger again, paced Centre with 20 kills and 11 digs. Bennett tallied seven kills, 58 assists and 11 digs and McElveen registered 32 digs in the two matches on the day.
The Colonels, now 8-12 overall, will return to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action, Friday-Sunday, Oct. 6-8, to participate in the SCAC Cross Divisional #1. Centre will open play Friday against Hendrix College at 1 p.m. CST followed by a match with Southwestern University at 7 p.m. CST. The Divisional will be hosted by Southwestern in Georgetown, Texas.
