Colonels split on day two of Cross Divisional #2
One day after splitting a pair of matches on the first day of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Volleyball Cross Divisional #2, the Centre College volleyball team split again on day two, falling to Austin College and then defeating Hendrix College, Saturday, Nov. 4, in Atlanta, Ga.
For the second straight day, the Colonels dropped their opening match of the day in three games, this time to Austin 30-14, 30-25, 33-31. Junior Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) and freshman Kelly McCoy (Lewisville, Texas) led Centre in kills. Burger had 12, while McCoy added 10 kills and four blocks.
Senior Kate Bennett (Louisville, Ky.) had 30 assists and three service aces. Senior Megan McElveen (Cold Spring, Ky.) notched 17 digs and three service aces and senior Ellie Exner (Durham, N.C.) chipped in nine digs in the defeat.
Match two saw the Colonel rebound for a three-game win over Hendrix 30-23, 30-17, 30-25. Burger had 14 kills to pace Centre. Sophomore Lindsay Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) added 11 kills. McElveen posted 18 digs and three service aces and Exner had 11 digs.
Centre, now 18-23 overall, will conclude its 2006 season, Sunday, Nov. 5, when it squares off against Southwestern University. The SCAC match is set to start at 10 a.m. in Atlanta, Ga.
