Volleyball drops season finale to Southwestern
Playing its final match of the 2006 season, the Centre College volleyball team fell to Southwestern University on the final day of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Cross Divisional #2, in Atlanta, Ga.
The Colonels, which end the season with an overall record of 18-24 and a SCAC mark of 7-11, fell in three games to the Pirates 30-25, 30-21, 30-19. Junior Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) had eight kills. Sophomore Layla Marefat (Lexington, Ky.) tallied seven kills.
Senior Kate Bennett (Louisville, Ky.) posted 28 assists and senior Megan McElveen (Cold Spring, Ky.) added 18 digs, in the final match of their collegiate careers. The match was also the final contest for seniors Ellie Exner (Durham, N.C.) and Christelle Ford (Corpus Christi, Texas).
Although the seniors have played their final match in a Centre uniform, they have written their names in the record books. McElveen finishes as the school's career leader in digs. Exner is second all-time in career service aces and Bennett ends her career third all-time in career kills and fifth all-time in career assists. |
