Volleyball News

After honoring its two seniors before the match, the Centre College volleyball team then disposed of Asbury College in four games on Senior Night, Thursday, Oct. 25, in Alumni Gymnasium in Danville, Ky.

With the win, the Colonels improved to 13-17 overall on the year and have now won five of their last six matches. The loss drops Asbury to 16-17 on the season.

After dropping the first game 30-23, Centre answered by winning the next three matches 30-23, 30-27, 30-24 and 30-20. The Colonels' two seniors played a big role in the win. Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) posted 18 kills, nine blocks and four service aces, while fellow senior Shannon Rosado (Louisville, Ky.) added 26 assists, 15 digs and two service aces.

Junior Lindsay Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore Jacqueline Beck (Lexington, Ky.) had 10 kills apiece and sophomore Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) tallied 23 digs in the win.

Centre will next host the 2007 Halloween Bash, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27-28. The Colonels will open play on day one at 1 p.m. against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, followed by a match against Loyola University-New Orleans at 3 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
