Volleyball News

The Centre College volleyball team opened its 2007 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) season with a pair of losses, falling to #17 Austin College and Colorado College on the first day of the SCAC East/West Divisional #1, hosted by Centre in Danville, Ky.

The Colonels fell in three games to Colorado in their first match of the day, losing 31-29, 30-24, 30-15 and then also fell in three games to Austin 30-27, 30-21, 30-25.

Senior Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) paced Centre with 19 kills in the first match and 10 kills in the second match. She also had three blocks in the loss to Austin.

Sophomore Alex Headley (Owensboro, Ky.) had 14 total kills, while also added 12 digs against Colorado. Senior Shannon Rosado (Louisville, Ky.) posted 32 assists and sophomore Mary Brieschke (Ann Arbor, Mich.) had 28 more in the two matches.

Sophomore Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) posted 25 digs while freshman Ashton Hupman (Lexington, Ky.) tallied eight blocks on the day.

Centre will return to action Sunday, Sept. 23 for day two of the Divisional. The Colonels will first play #5 Trinity University at at 11 a.m. followed by a match against Oglethorpe University at 3 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
