Sarah Burger earns SCAC Player-of-the-Week Honors
Senior volleyball player Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) was named one of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Volleyball Co-Players-of-the-Week for her efforts spanning the week of October 15-21. A period of time that saw the Colonel volleyball team win four of five matches, including a 3-1 mark in conference play.
Burger helped lead the Colonels to a 4-1 record this past week, including a 3-1 mark at the SCAC Central/East Divisional #2. Burger recorded 78 kills over the 15 games she played (5.2 per game) with only 17 errors on 132 attempts for a .462 hitting efficiency. She also had 17 blocks (1.13 per game), three assists and 11 digs .
Over the weekend, Burger totaled the 2,000th kill of her career - making her just the third player in SCAC history to hit that milestone. With 2,015 career kills, she trails only Janie Hodgkinson of DePauw (1998-2001) in the SCAC record books. Hodgkinson finished her career with 2,214 kills.
For the season, Burger is hitting .341 (fourth in the SCAC) with 443 kills (second in the SCAC) and 101 blocks (eighth in the SCAC).
Centre, now 12-17 overall and 6-9 in SCAC play, will host the 2007 Halloween Bash, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27-28 in Danville, Ky. The Colonels will open play Saturday against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at 1 p.m. followed by a match against Loyola University at 3 p.m.
