Volleyball News

After opening the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) East/West Divisional #2 with a pair of losses the previous day, the Centre College volleyball team dropped another pair of matches to DePauw University and Austin College, Saturday, Oct. 13, in San Antonio, Texas.

The Colonels opened the second day falling to DePauw in three games. The Tigers won game won 30-21 before going on to win game two 30-17 and game three 30-23.

Senior Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) tallied 12 kills, six blocks and a service ace for the Colonels. Sophomore Mary Brieschke (Ann Arbor, Mich.) had 14 assists and fellow sophomore Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) added 15 digs.

Centre returned in game two and fell to #14 Austin in three games. The Kangaroos won game one 30-18 and then went on to win game two 30-15 and game three 30-16.

The Colonels, now 8-16 overall and 3-9 in the SCAC, will return home to host Maryville College Wednesday, Oct. 17 in Danville, Ky. The non-conference match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
