Volleyball News

For the second time this season, the Centre College volleyball team has split a pair of matches, this time defeating Dickinson College in four games before losing to Washington and Jefferson College in five games, Saturday, Sept. 8, in Washington, Penn. The matches were played as part of the Washington and Jefferson Tournament.

The Colonels opened the day by winning their second match of the season in four games over Dickinson College 19-30, 30-27, 30-28, 30-28. Senior Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) had a big match posting 26 kills and 18 digs to lead the Colonels.

Sophomore Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) tallied 25 digs. Senior setter Shannon Rosado (Louisville, Ky.) had 28 assists and freshman middle hitter Ashton Hupman (Lexington, Ky.) added five blocks in the win.

After winning two of the first three games in the second match, the Colonels lost the last two to fall in five games to Washington & Jefferson 30-25, 25-30, 21-30, 30-27, 15-11. Burger again paced Centre, this time recording 23 kills and 10 digs.

Broughton, Rosado and Hupman also had solid performances again. Broughton notched 22 digs, while Rosado tallied 25 assists and Hupman had four blocks.

Centre, now 2-4 on the season, will return to action Sunday, Sept. 9 for the second day of the Washington & Jefferson Tournament. The Colonels will first play Ohio Wesleyan University at noon, followed by a match against the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg at 2 p.m. in Washington, Penn.
