Centre splits at SCAC Central/East Divisional #1
After defeating the host, Hendrix College in its first match of the day, the Centre College volleyball team fell to Millsaps College in its second match to earn a split on the first day of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Central/East Divisional #1 Saturday, Sept. 29 in Conway, Ark.
The Colonels opened the day with their second SCAC win, a 3-0 win over Hendrix. Centre won 30-19, 30-13, 30-20.
Senior Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) paced the Colonels with 14 kills and five blocks. Senior Shannon Rosado (Louisville, Ky.) had 19 assists and three service aces, and sophomore Megan Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) added 19 digs.
Then following a 30-22 loss in the first game against Millsaps, the Colonels rallied to win the next two games 32-30, 30-12, but dropped games four and five 30-26 and 19-17 to fall to the Majors in five games.
Burger again led the team with 24 kills. Sophomore Alex Headley (Owensboro, Ky.) also had 24 kills, while Rosado had 35 assists and Broughton tallied 27 digs.
The Colonels will wrap up the Divisional Sunday, Sept. 30 with matches against Rhodes College at 11 a.m. CST followed by a match against Sewanee-The University of the South at 1 p.m. CST. |
