Volleyball team splits a pair at SCAC Central/East Divisional #2
Playing in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Central/East Divisional #2, the Centre College volleyball team earned a split by defeating Millsaps College in the first match and then falling to Birmingham Southern College in the second match Saturday, Oct. 20 in Greencastle, Ind.
The Colonels opened the first day of the final divisional of the 2007 regular season by getting a bit of revenge in a 3-0 win over Millsaps. Centre lost to the Majors 3-2 earlier in the season, but won the second meeting of the year 30-27, 30-17, 30-16.
As she has done all year, senior Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) once again led the Colonels posting 18 kills and four blocks. Sophomore Kelly McCoy (Lewisville, Texas) had eight kills and two blocks. Sophomore Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) added 19 digs, while senior Shannon Rosado (Louisville, Ky.) tallied 28 assists.
Centre fell in the second match of the day to Division III provisional member Birmingham Southern in three games. After losing the first game 30-10, the Colonels lost the last two games by the same 30-18 score. Burger had 10 kills. Broughton recorded 13 digs and Rosado added 12 assists in the defeat.
Centre will complete the Divisional on day two Sunday, Oct. 21. The Colonels will first play Hendrix College at 9 a.m. followed by a match against Oglethorpe University at 3 p.m. in Greencastle, Ind.
