Centre volleyball sweeps on day one of Halloween Bash
The Centre College volleyball team continued its strong play winning a pair of matches against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Loyola University Saturday, Oct. 27 on day one of the Halloween Bash in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels, which have now won five straight matches and seven of their last eight, improve to 15-17 overall on the season after defeating Rose-Hulman 3-0 and Loyola 3-2.
Centre wasted little time in disposing of Rose-Hulman, winning 30-17, 30-25 and 30-23. Senior Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) posted 16 kills and five blocks to lead the Colonels. Senior Shannon Rosado (Louisville, Ky.) had 22 assists and sophomore Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) tallied 14 digs and three service aces.
After dropping the first game 30-22 to Loyola, the Colonels responded with wins in games two and three 30-26, 30-23. Loyola won the fourth game 30-22, but Centre answered by winning game five 15-10.
Burger again led team with 22 kills. Rosado had 34 assists. Broughton notched 33 digs and three service aces, while sophomore Kelly McCoy (Lewisville, Texas) added five blocks in the win.
Centre will return to action Sunday, Oct. 28 for day two of the Halloween Bash. The Colonels will open the day against Piedmont College at 10 a.m. and then will either play in the consolation match or the championship match at 12:30 p.m. in Danville, Ky. |
