Colonels drop a pair of SCAC matches
Playing for the first time in the month of October, the Centre College volleyball team dropped a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) matches to Southwestern University and Colorado College, Friday, Oct. 12, in San Antonio, Texas.
The Colonels fell in three games to Southwestern to open the first day of the SCAC East/West Divisional #2. The Pirates, who entered the day ranked 23rd in the CSTV/AVCA Top 25 poll, won the first game 30-22 and then went on to win games two and three 30-18 and 30-22.
Senior Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) led Centre with 10 kills and six blocks. Sophomore Kelly McCoy (Lewisville, Texas) had nine kills and three blocks and sophomore Megan Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) added 18 digs in the loss.
The Colonels then fell in four games to Colorado College. The Tigers won 30-13, 30-21, 30-32, 30-25. Colorado also defeated Centre in three games 31-29, 30-24, 30-15 September 22 in Danville, Ky.
Burger again paced the Colonels with 13 kills and six blocks. Senior Shannon Rosado (Louisville, Ky.) tallied 27 assists, while Broughton notched 14 more digs.
Centre, now 8-14 overall and 3-7 in the SCAC, will return to action Saturday, Oct. 13 for day two of the Divisional. The Colonels will open the day against DePauw University at 10 a.m. CST, followed by a match against Austin College at 2 p.m. CST in San Antonio, Texas. |
