Volleyball News

Playing in its final regular season match of the year, the Centre College volleyball team fell to Transylvania University in four games in a non-conference match on the Pioneers senior night, Tuesday, Oct. 30, in Lexington, Ky.

The Colonels, which entered the match winners of eight of their last 10 matches, fall to 16-19 overall. Transylvania won a hard-fought game one 31-29 before falling 30-20 to Centre in game two. The Pioneers then went on to win games three and four 30-19 and 30-28 for the four-game win.

Senior Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) paced the Colonels with 14 kills and five blocks. Sophomore Alex Headley (Owensboro, Ky.) added 12 kills and 19 digs.

Senior Shannon Rosado (Louisville, Ky.) had 24 assists, 10 digs and two service aces. Sophomore Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) tallied 33 digs and sophomore Mary Brieschke (Ann Arbor, Mich.) posted 23 assists, 12 digs and two service aces.

Centre will next compete in the inaugural Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament Friday, Nov. 2 through Saturday, Nov. 3. The Colonels will open the tournament as the #7 seed and will play tenth seeded Hendrix College at 2 p.m. CST in Sherman, Texas.
