Volleyball News

Following a loss to #5 Trinity University in its opening match on day two of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) East/West Divisional #1, the Centre College volleyball team rebounded to defeat Oglethorpe University for its first league win of the season, Sunday, Sept. 23, in Danville, Ky.

The Colonels lost in three games to #5 Trinity 30-25, 30-17, 30-20. The loss marked the fourth straight for Centre, which fell to 5-10 overall and 0-3 in league play.

The team rebounded in the second match to defeat Oglethorpe in three games 30-22, 30-28, 30-21 to improve to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

Senior Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) paced the Colonels with 20 kills, two solo blocks and seven block assists in the two matches. Fellow senior Shannon Rosado (Louisville, Ky.) tallied 29 total assists and sophomore Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) added 21 digs.

Centre returns to action Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29-30 in the SCAC East/Central Divisional #1 in Conway, Ark. The Colonels will open play Saturday against Hendrix College at 2:00 p.m. CST, followed by a match against Millsaps College at 6:00 p.m. CST.
