Volleyball News Centre volleyball drops first two match of the year The Centre College volleyball team did not get off to the start it had hoped, dropping its first two matches of the season to Wittenberg University and Thomas More College Friday, Aug. 31, in the Wittenberg Invitational in Springfield, Ohio. The Colonels were defeated in three games against the host team, 30-25, 30-19, and 30-23. Senior Sarah Burger (Goshen, Ky.) led Centre with 10 kills and two blocks.
Sophomore Kelly McCoy (Lewisville, Texas) had seven kills. Senior Shannon Rosado (Louisville, Ky.) tallied 15 assists and sophomore Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) added 11 digs. The Colonels also recorded 17 kills in the loss.
In the second match of the day, Centre fell also fell in three games, this time to Thomas More. The Saints won 30-25, 30-26, 30-13. Burger again led the way with 12 kills.
Freshman Ashton Hupman (Lexington, Ky.) had 11 kills. Rosado and sophomore Mary Brieschke (Ann Arbor, Mich.) each recorded 15 assists, while Broughton had 13 digs and sophomore Alex Headley (Owensboro, Ky.) notched 11 digs.
Centre, now 0-2, will look to bounce back Saturday, Sept. 1 with matches against Eastern University at noon and Defiance College at 2 p.m. |
