Centre falls to Rhodes, defeats Sewanee on day two
One day after splitting a pair of conference matches, the Centre College volleyball team split another pair of matches, falling to Rhodes College and defeating Sewanee-University of the South on day two of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Cross Divisional #4 Sunday, Oct. 26 in Sewanee, Tenn.
The Colonels fell to Rhodes in three games 25-23, 25-20, 25-18. Freshman Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) led Centre with 10 kills and 3.5 blocks. Junior Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) had 16 digs and one service ace while junior Mary Brieschke (Ann Arbor, Mich.) added 13 assists in the defeat.
In the second match of the day Centre defeated Sewanee in four games 23-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-13. Woeste again led the Colonels with 10 kills, seven service aces and 3.5 blocks. Senior Lindsay Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) had seven kills and one block. Broughton tallied 12 digs and four service aces. Brieschke had 14 assists and freshman Hannah Greer (Owensboro, Ky.) finished with nine assists, four digs and two kills.
Centre, now 14-20 overall and 5-9 in the SCAC, will next return home Wednesday, Oct. 29 to host Transylvania University. The non-conference match will be part of Centre's Senior Day and is set to start at 7 p.m. in Danville, Ky. |
