Colonels win two on final day of SCAC East/West Divisional
Coming off a brutal first day at the SCAC East/West Divisional hosted by Colorado College the Colonels came away with two wins on the second day. Centre was able to beat Austin College and Oglethorpe University in four matches in Colorado Springs, CO. on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The Colonels played Austin College in the first match and won the first two games 26-24 and 25-18. Austin College was able to come back in the third game to win 25-15, but Centre would not be discouraged as they were able to win the match in game four 25-21.
Junior Rebecca Pugh (Colfax, Ca.) had 10 kills in the win. Senior Alex Headley (Owensboro, Ky.) had a strong match as she recorded nine kills, 12 digs, and one block. Senior Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) carried the Colonels with 27 digs and one ace. Junior Ashton Hupman (Lexington, Ky.) was an asset for the Colonels as well with five and a half blocks.
Centre would come out and have a strong second match against Oglethorpe, as the Colonels would win the first two games 25-19 and 28-26. Oglethorpe wouldn't give up as they won the third match 25-18. Centre would come out in the fourth game and out play the Stormy Petrels as they would win the game 25-16.
Sophomore Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) had a big second game as she recorded 13 kills and four and a half blocks. Sophomore Hannah Greer (Owensboro, Ky.) led the Colonels in assists with 28. Broughton had a fantastic second game as well with 23 digs.
Centre will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 24 as they will host Birmingham-Southern in their first match of the SCAC East/Central Divisional in Danville, Ky. The match will start at 2:00 p.m. |
