Volleyball News

The Centre volleyball team had another tough day with two losses on the second day of the East/West Divisional, which was hosted by DePauw University, in Greencastle, Ind. Centre fell in their first match on Sunday, Sept. 27 to #13 Colorado College 3-1. The Colonels then took on host DePauw College in the second match falling, 3-1.

Colorado College came out strong winning the first two games 25-12 and 25-19. Centre was able to come back and win the third game 25-20, but the Tigers would put away the Colonels in the fourth game 25-15.

Junior Rebecca Pugh (Colfax, Ca.) had 10 kills and Sophomore Hannah Greer (Owensboro, Ky.) provided Centre with 12 assists and eight digs. Sophomore Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) contributed with four blocks and Senior Kelly McCoy (Lewisville, Texas) added 3.5 blocks.

In the second game Centre was hoping to get back on track with a win, but fell to DePauw 21-25, 25-20, 14-25, and 21-25.

Woeste recorded 13 kills and 1.5 blocks in the match followed by junior Ashton Hupman (Lexington, Ky.) with 13 kills and 1.5 blocks. Senior Mary Brieschke (Ann Arbor, Mich.) led the Colonels in assists with 18. Senior Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) posted 20 digs for Centre.

Centre takes on Sewanee University on Saturday, Oct. 3 in the Colonels next match at the SCAC East/Central Divisional, hosted by Rhodes College. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Memphis, Tenn.
