Colonels win the Hanover Invitational with two wins
The Centre College volleyball team won two games on the second day of the Hanover College Invitational Saturday, Sept. 12 in Hanover, Ind. to win the tournament. Centre beat Capital University in the first match and Maryville College in the second game.
In the first match of the day, Centre beat Capital University in three games, 25-23, 27-25, and 25-16. Sophomore Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) had 16 kills and 6.5 blocks for the Colonels and junior Ashton Hupman (Lexington, Ky.) had 10 kills. Senior Mary Brieschke (Ann Arbor, Mich.) had 20 assists and senior Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) had 17 digs.
Centre beat Maryville in four games in the second match on Saturday, Sept. 12th. The Colonels won the first game 25-23, but dropped the second game 21-25. Centre came back and one the next two games 25-23 and 25-20.
Hupman, who was the MVP of the tournament, had 14 kills and 5 blocks against Maryville. Broughton recorded 27 digs and 2 aces and Brieschke had 31 assists on the match.
Centre will return to play Saturday, Sept. 19 when they host the Centre College Classic. The Colonels will play Spalding University at 11:00 a.m. and Hanover College at 3:00 p.m. |
