Volleyball can't pull off the sweep at the SCAC East/West Divisional
Centre would win their first match against Millsaps College, 3-1, but couldn't pull off the upset against DePauw University as they would lose, 3-1, on Sunday, Oct. 25 in Danville, Ky. during the second and final day of the SCAC East/West Divisional.
The Colonels won there third straight match against Millsaps, 3-1. Centre would win the first game 25-13, but would fall in the second game 25-21. The Colonels would go on and win out the next two games, 25-22 and 25-23, to take the win.
Senior Kelly McCoy (Lewisville, Tx.) and Senior Jacqueline Beck (Lexington, Ky.) both had 10 kills in the match. Sophomore Hannah Greer (Owensboro, Ky.) led the Colonels in assists with 25. Senior Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) registered 24 digs. Sophomore Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) had two and a half blocks and three aces in the win.
In the second game against DePauw University, the Colonels could not pull off the upset as they would have a hard fought loss. DePauw would win the first game 25-23, but Centre would come back in the second game and win 25-18. The third game would be close, as DePauw came away with the win 26-24. DePauw would close out the match with a win in the fourth game, 25-18.
Senior Alex Headley (Owensboro, Ky.) had 13 kills, 13 digs, and two aces. Greer (Owensboro, Ky.) provided the Colonels with 18 assists. Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) registered 22 digs and Woeste had five blocks.
Centre takes on Asbury College next with game time set for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28 in Danville, Ky. The game will be played in Alumni Gym. |
