Volleyball team falls in five to Mount St. Joseph
After rallying from a 2-0 deficit and forcing a fifth game, the Centre College volleyball team fell just short and lost 15-11 in the final game to fall 3-2 to the College of Mount St. Joseph in the season-opener for both teams Tuesday, Sept. 1 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Colonels dropped the first two games 25-17 and 25-16, but rallied to win 25-17 and 25-23 in games three and four before falling 15-11 in game five to the Lions, who received votes in the AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll.
Sophomore Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) paced Centre with 11 kills and 2.5 blocks. Junior Ashton Hupman (Lexington, Ky.) had nine kills and two blocks. Senior Mary Brieschke (Ann Arbor, Mich.) tallied 16 assists and senior Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) add 12 digs.
Centre will next travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5-6 for the Kalamazoo College Invitational. The Colonels will open against Franklin College at 5 p.m. on Saturday and then play Baldwin-Wallace College at 7 p.m. |
