Colonels split on final day of the SCAC East/Central Divisional
Centre went 1-1 on the second day of the SCAC East/Central Divisional hosted by Rhodes College. The Colonels came from behind in their first match against host Rhodes College on Sunday, Oct. 4 in Memphis, Tenn. In the second match of the day Centre dropped to Millsaps in three games.
The Colonels fell behind Rhodes in the first two game 16-25 and 14-25, but wouldn't give up as they would win the next three games 25-16, 25-17 and winning the fifth set 17-15. Centre didn't only come back to win the match overall, but they had fallen behind in the fifth set, 12-14, only to put up a fight and win the game 17-15.
Senior Alex Headley (Owensboro, Ky.) delivered 11 kills for the Colonels, while sophomore Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) put up 10 kills and four and a half blocks. Senior Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) furnished the Colonels with 20 digs in the comeback win. Senior Mary Brieschke (Ann Arbor, Mich.) delivered 17 assists and two aces for Centre.
Centre tried to make it four straight wins in their second game of the day, but couldn't quite pull a win off over Millsaps as they fell in three games, 23-25, 19-25, and 14-25.
Woeste played well as she recorded nine kills, one block, and two aces on the afternoon. Sophomore Hannah Greer (Owensboro, Ky.) contributed with 16 assists and Broughton recorded 19 digs for the Colonels.
The Colonels are 11-8 overall after the split and 3-5 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Centre returns to action on Friday, Oct. 9
