Centre Volleyball chosen to finish seventh in SCAC poll
Coming off of a 2008 season where the Colonels had a record of 17-25 and 5-9 SCAC record the team was chosen to finish seventh in the preseason SCAC poll.
The Colonels have seven seniors on the team this year who are hoping to lead the team to a successful season along with a core group of underclassmen. Centre will see a challenging year with four SCAC teams having preseason rankings.
Southwestern University was the preseason favorite with 126 points and six first place votes in the SCAC poll (36-5, 14-1 SCAC). The Pirates made it to the NCAA Division III South Regional final last season.
Trinity came in a close second with 122 points and five first place votes in the SCAC preseason poll (31-10, 13-1 SCAC) followed by Colorado College, who received 108 points and one first place vote (27-12, 12-3 SCAC). Austin College was voted to finish fourth within the SCAC (25-12, 9-5 SCAC). Following Austin was DePauw University (25-14, 11-4 SCAC) and Rhodes College coming in sixth (18-22, 8-7).
Coming behind Centre was Millsaps College at eighth (15-24, 4-11 SCAC). Hendrix College which finished last season with an overall record of 14-29 and 3-11 in the SCAC was voted in at ninth. Ogelthorpe University was voted in at the tenth spot (12-27, 1-14 SCAC) and Sewanee rounded out the poll in the twelfth spot (3-23, 0-14 SCAC).
The 2009 SCAC Conference Tournament will take place Nov. 6 and 7 in Atlanta, Ga. at Ogelthorpe University.
