Volleyball loses two matches at first day of SCAC East/West Divisional
The Centre volleyball team lost two tough matches during the first day of the SCAC East/West Divisional, which is hosted by Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16-17. Centre lost their first match, 3-0, to Southwestern University, who leads the SCAC. In the second match the Colonels took on Colorado College, who is second in the conference, and lost 3-0.
Centre was coming off two straight wins before their game against Southwestern. Southwestern came out strong winning the first game 12-25. The Pirates would not let up in the second game as they would go on to win 14-25. Centre would fight back in the third game, but could not come up with the win as they would lose 24-26.
Sophomore Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) had 10 kills and two aces in the lose to Southwestern. Junior Ashton Hupman (Lexington, Ky.) recorded three blocks in the match.
In the second match against Colorado College the Colonels played hard, but couldn't get the momentum to change in their favor as they would lose 20-25, 10-25, and 18-25.
Senior Alex Headley (Owensboro, Ky.) tallied four kills. Senior Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) provided Centre with 19 digs and sophomore Hannah Greer (Owensboro, Ky.) contributed with 13 assists.
Centre will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 17 for day two of the SCAC East/West Divisional in Colorado Springs, CO. The Colonels will play Austin College at 2:00 p.m. |
