Centre volleyball splits in SCAC Volleyball Championship Tournament
The Centre volleyball team opened the first day of the SCAC Volleyball Championship Tournament with a win over Sewanee University and a loss to DePauw University on Friday, Nov. 6 in Atlanta, Ga. The Tournament is hosted by Oglethorpe University.
Centre would beat Sewanee 3-1 in the Colonels first match at the SCAC Volleyball Championship Tournament. In the first games against Sewanee, the Colonels would win 25-13. The Tigers would comeback in the second game and win 23-25. Centre would then put Sewanee away by winning the next two games 25-14 and 25-11.
The Colonels would be led by senior Kelly McCoy (Lewisville, Tx.) and junior Rebecca Pugh (Colfax, Ca.) in kills with each recording 12. Senior Laura Broughton (Lexington, Ky.) would register 13 digs. Sophomore Hannah Greer (Owensboro, Ky.) posted 28 assists and sophomore Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) recorded 4.5 blocks.
In the Colonels second match of the day they would fall to DePauw University 3-1. DePauw would win the first two games 25-19 and 25-17. Centre would win a close third game by a score of 25-23, but would then drop the fourth game 25-14.
Junior Ashton Hupman (Lexington, Ky.) and Pugh would each post 10 kills. Senior Alex Headley (Owensboro, Ky.) amassed 20 digs. Greer and senior Mary Brieschke (Ann Arbor, Mich.) each recorded 19 assists. Hupman would also have 3.5 blocks against DePauw.
Centre will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 7 for day two of the SCAC Volleyball Championship Tournament in Atlanta, Ga. The Colonels will play at 11:15 a.m. against either Colorado College or Oglethorpe University. |
