Cheek Field & Farris Stadium

Date Built: The football field and stadium were both completed in 1923. A fundraising drive, "Say it with cement," raised money for the 18,000 barrels of cement used in the original construction. Maurice J. Farris III left money for the 12,000-seat stadium's maintenance and upkeep in his will. The quarter-mile track that circles the gridiron was added later. Renovations in 2005 included a resurfaced track and a new Steeplechase course.

The newly renovated press box at Farris Stadium was dedicated in 2006 and named after Centre alum and golf coach Herb McGuire '57. McGuire was a stand-out athlete in three different sports at Centre including football, track, and golf. The 2003 Centre Hall of Fame Inductee and 1957 graduate also coached numerous sports at Centre.

Located directly behind Sutcliffe Hall, the stadium is the home of the Colonels football and track teams. Although Cheek Field is closed during the fall and during track season, the six-lane, all-weather, rubberized track is available for walking or running except during home events. Security lights on the track make this an ideal place to run or walk in the evening.
