The Centre Commitment. All students are guaranteed 1) an internship, 2) study abroad, and 3) graduation within four years or Centre will provide up to a year of additional study tuition-free.

Location. Historic Danville—near Lexington in famed Bluegrass region of Central Kentucky. 30 miles from Lexington, 85 from Louisville, 120 from Cincinnati, 140 from Knoxville, 200 from Nashville, 230 from Columbus, 375 from Atlanta, 375 from Chicago.

Student Body. Approximately 1,150 students from throughout the United States and several foreign countries.

Faculty. 98 percent hold the Ph.D. or other final degree.

Student/Faculty Ratio. 11 to 1.

Affiliations. Phi Beta Kappa (only private institution in Kentucky to have a chapter). Charter member of Associated Colleges of the South; other members are Birmingham-Southern, Centenary, Davidson, Furman, Hendrix, Millsaps, Morehouse, Rhodes, Richmond, Rollins, Sewanee, Southwestern, Spelman, Trinity, and Washington and Lee.

Rhodes/Fulbright Scholars. In last 40 years, two-thirds of Kentucky’s Rhodes Scholars have come from Centre; 24 Fulbright winners in last 10 years.

Majors. 27 majors, 27 minors. In addition to traditional majors, we encourage self-designed majors so that you can create the major that’s right for you. Double majors are common. Dual-degree engineering programs are offered with four major universities.

Class Size. Average class size is 18. No large lecture classes; normal maximum class size is 30.

Centre Students. Two words: involved and smart. Eighty percent of this year's freshmen ranked in the top quarter of their high school class, with more than 60 percent in the top 10 percent of the class. The ACT range for the middle 50 percent is 26 to 30. The SAT range for the middle 50 percent is 570-690 critical reading and 570-650 math. In high school most were active in multiple activities. Their interest in being involved and well-rounded continues at college.

After Class. Social life at Centre is active and varied with around 100 clubs, teams, and other formal and informal groups available. More than 2,000 campus events take place each year.

After Graduation. Within 10 months of graduation, 96 percent of Centre students (on average) are employed or engaged in advanced study. About 40 percent earn advanced degrees within 10 years; medicine, law, and business are popular.

Alumni Support. Over the past 25 years Centre leads all the nation’s more than 3,800 colleges and universities in the percentage of alumni who contribute annually.

Financial Strength. Total endowment is approximately $205 million; cost of the physical plant is more than $100 million.

 
 


Campus and Facilities. 115-acre campus, 60 buildings (13 included in the National Register of Historic Places). The College Centre (athletic, academic, and library facilities) opened in 2005.

Study Abroad. Ranked among the nation’s top 10 in study-abroad percentage. Semester-long study offered at campuses in England (London or Reading), France, and Mexico, with exchange programs in Japan, Northern Ireland, and England. Basic costs are similar to those for study on Danville campus. Variety of three-week study opportunities at other locations around the world: for example, Italy, Vietnam, Barbados, Spain, and Turkey.

Religious Heritage. Founded by Presbyterian leaders; actively seeks students and faculty of all faiths.

Athletics. Nine varsity intercollegiate teams for men; 45 percent participate. Ten intercollegiate teams for women; 25 percent participate. Member of NCAA Division III and Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Intercollegiate club teams in women's lacrosse and coed Ultimate Frisbee. Intramural program includes men’s, women’s, and coed teams.

Residence Life. Choose from a variety of housing options, including traditional Greek Revival residence halls, townhouse apartments, and houses for special interests such as International House. A state-of-the-art residence hall will be dedicated in 2009.

Financial Aid/Scholarships. Need-based and merit scholarships offered. Approximately 70 percent of all students receive need-based financial aid. The average financial aid award (need and merit) last year was almost $19,000. Renewable competitive scholarships available for 40-50 percent of each freshman class—worth from $7,000 up to $28,000 per year.

2007-08 Cost. $7,500 to 80 percent of the comprehensive fee. $35,000 comprehensive fee (includes tuition, room, and board).
