Kindle 2 Policy
In the interest of promoting leisure reading to the Centre College community at large, the Doherty Library has purchased a Kindle 2, the electronic book reader produced by Amazon. The Library has selected and loaded a number of titles for the Kindle 2 in such genres as popular fiction, humor, and mystery/science fiction, as well as the 2009-2010 theme book, The Reluctant Mr. Darwin by David Quammen, and the 2010-2011 theme book, Chinese Lessons by John Pomfret. Users will have full access to all titles currently loaded on the Kindle 2. A list of titles, as well as a link to a form for requesting new titles for the Kindle 2, follows below.
- The Kindle 2 is available for checkout to any Centre College student, faculty or staff member. Community patrons will not be permitted to check out the Kindle 2.
- Checkout of the Kindle 2 includes the device itself, a protective cover, and an A/C adapter cord.
- The Kindle 2 may be checked out for a maximum of seven (7) days, regardless of one's status as student, faculty, or staff. The Kindle 2 cannot be renewed in order to extend the checkout period.
- Overdue fines will be assessed to anyone checking out the Kindle 2, regardless of user status, at $2.50 per day each for the device itself and for the A/C adapter. If not returned after five (5) days, the user will be charged a lost item replacement and processing fee in the amount of $395.00.
- Users will not be able to download titles wirelessly for the Kindle 2, as this feature has been disabled by the Library staff. New title suggestions are encouraged, however, and may be submitted electronically here.
