The fate of Volume 3 of the Board of Trustees minutes, covering the years 1853-1863, is a mystery. However, the minute book of the Board's Financial and Building committees survives, offering glimpses into some of the deliberations of the Board during that period. The minutes of the Building Committee are especially interesting, for they deal with the construction of Old Main and the new Preparatory school building. The minutes themselves are disjointed, with several large gaps. The order of entries in the minute book is listed above.
