Twelve laptop computers and power adaptors are available at the Circulation Desk for loan to students. The laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved ahead of time. See Software for a list of programs installed on each laptop. For instructions on color printing, see the Printing, Color section.
Personal laptops can be used in the library to access the campus network. To connect to the library's wireless network, you will need a wireless network card and have your laptop network registered. This can be done at the Information Technology Services PC Fair at the beginning of each academic year. If this hasn't been done, contact ITS for further information. It is possible to print from your personal laptop to the library's printer/copier workstations. To do this you will need to install a small software package on your laptop. Links to download the software are available at the Pharos Uniprint Home Page. Select Click here if you know which software package you need to install and then Library Printers and/or Library Color Printer.
All of the study carrels in the library are equipped with data ports and power outlets, providing wired access to the campus network. The study tables in the front reading rooms also have power outlets and data ports. To connect to the wired network with your own laptop, you need to have a network card and cable.
Doherty Library is equipped with a wireless network, offering mobile connectivity and network accessibility from various locations. Although coverage is available throughout the library, there may be some areas where coverage is better than others. Bring your own laptop or check one out at the library's Circulation Desk.
REMEMBER: Transmissions over the wireless network are not encrypted. Therefore, users are advised not to transmit personal information such as social security number or credit card information while using the wireless network.
