Jamie Gay returns to Centre as athletic trainer

DANVILLE, KY -- Jamey Gay, who served as Centre College's head athletic trainer from 1988-95, is returning to that position, replacing Sue Stanley, who resigned to accept a similar position at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Fla.

Centre College Acting Athletic Director Joe McDaniel say Gay would assume his new duties in August.

Gay has served as program director for the McDowell Wellness Center in Danville since he left Centre in 1995. During his years at the college, he also worked as sports information director for two years. Stanley worked for one year at Centre after serving as associate trainer at the University of Kentucky for 15 years.

At Centre, Gay's primary responsibilities include the prevention, care, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for the school's 19 NCAA Division III sports programs and coordination of the student athletic trainer education program.

Gay, who was elected to the Danville City Commission in January, is a member of National Athletic Trainers Association and is certified by the Kentucky State Board of Medical Licensure. Gay holds a master's degree in sports medicine from the University of Virginia and a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from the University of Kentucky.

Gay is also a member of the Boyle County American Heart Association's Board of Directors, the Central Kentucky Red Cross's Chapter's Board of Directors and the Rotary Club. He chairs the advisory board of the Danville-Boyle County Community Education Committee.

McDaniel also announced that Shannon Pawlak will join the Centre staff as assistant trainer. Pawlak has a master's degree in biomechanics from Auburn University and a bachelor's degree in health education from the University of Kentucky. Pawlak has served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Auburn for the last two years and spent five seasons as a student athletic trainer at Kentucky.
