Centre College newspaper wins state awards
DANVILLE, KY -- The Cento, the Centre College student newspaper, won seven awards in recent competition sponsored by the Kentucky Intercollegiate Press Association. The paper competed in KIPA's Division B, open to any school with an enrollment under 5,000.
The Cento awards included first place in sports photography for a photo by Ryan Bowe, a freshman from Nicholasville, and two second-place awards for front-page layout and overall layout. Three student writers were honored with third place awards: Ashley Ponsoll of Danville, for a sports column; Jacquie Sale of Lexington, for a sports feature story; and Adriana Melnyk of Indianapolis, for a review. In addition, the paper won an honorable mention award for feature layout.
Published bi-weekly by a mostly volunteer staff, the Cento is funded by the Centre Student Congress. Amanda Brabson of Knoxville serves as editor in chief and Joe Glerum of Oswego, N.Y., is associate editor. The paper has nine section editors, a business manager and a rotating staff of student writers.
