Centre hosts sports picnic to launch fall season

DANVILLE, KY-Centre College will hold its annual Gold and White Dinner this Saturday, Sept. 4, following the football team's scrimmage with Hanover College. The game begins at 1:30 p.m., followed by the picnic dinner at 5 p.m. on the lawn of the Cowan dining hall. Admission to the game is free. Cost of the picnic dinner is $9 for adults and $7 for kids under 12. Reservations are recommended; telephone 238-5488.

Coaches and players will meet guests at the picnic, and the coaches will comment on Centre's prospects for the year.

Also on Saturday, the college will launch Tailgate Centre, with food and entertainment prior to the football game. Beginning at 11:30 a.m. adjacent to Farris Field, there will be grilled food available for purchase, along with free entertainment. The college plans to host comparable Tailgate Centre activities prior to every home game. Starting times are 11:30 a.m., except on Homecoming Day (Oct. 16), when the starting time will be 1 p.m.

Centre's Gold and White Club will continue to meet every Monday at noon during active sports seasons at the college. The club is open to any persons interested in the Center athletic program. Members meet at the Cowan dining hall for a one-hour lunch featuring brief comments by coaches and player concerning recent games and matches. Lunch is $5.50, payable at the door each week.
