Centre College students plan event in support of homeless veterans

DANVILLE, KY - Friday night (Dec. 3), shortly after the end of Danville's annual Christmas parade, Centre College students will begin an outdoor vigil in support of Kentucky's homeless veterans. Members of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity will sleep outdoors in cardboard boxes to raise awareness of the plight of former Kentucky servicemen and women who now are homeless.

According to Tammy Deiter, a Centre junior from Centerville, Tenn., who is coordinating the event, the students also are requesting donations that will help benefit homeless veterans in the state. Deiter says the group will begin its all-night vigil around 9:30 p.m. on the lawn of the Old Centre administration building and remain there until 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, close to two million Americans are homeless for a portion of each year.

Persons interested in making donations may contact the Centre Student Life Office at 238 5480.
