Centre students complete internships at locations worldwide

DANVILLE, KY -- Twenty-one Centre College students are completing internships during the current spring term, and their placement sites range from agencies in Danville to an embassy in Washington, D.C., and a research laboratory in London, England.

In Danville, the Kentucky School for the Deaf hosted Danville native Michele Finke in an internship with kindergarten and elementary school students. Central Kentucky Federal Savings Bank hosted Owen McNeil for projects including an analysis of stocks and bonds.

The other local placement sites and their interns were the YMCA swim program (Chris Hart), Pioneer Vocational Industries (Molly Mittler), Danville Circuit Court (Katie Raines), Toliver Elementary School (Kristin Smith) and Glassbrook Studio (Shane Urquhart).

Lindsay Burns, a Centre junior from Johnson City, Tenn., secured a research internship with a laboratory in London while studying with the Centre-in-Europe program. The lab uses techniques of biochemistry and molecular biology to study aspects of nerve restoration and limb development.

Ben Young also interned at some distance from the campus, assigned to the Latvian embassy in Washington. He pursued research on NATO enlargement and the relationship between NATO and emerging republics in Central Europe.

The internship program is coordinated by Centre's Career Development Office.
