Shayla Lynch honored at Centre College

DANVILLE, KY-Hopkinsville resident Shayla Lynch has been honored at Centre College as 1999 Member of the Year in the Black Student Union. She was voted the award by fellow BSU members on the basis of her service and involvement. In other recent honors, Lynch also was elected president of the BSU for 1999-2000, and she was named a student representative to the academic planning committee for the government department.

A graduate of Hopkinsville High School, Lynch is a LaMotte Scholar at Centre and is pursuing a double major in government and English. She is the head choreographer for the Centre Dance Team.

During the past year, Lynch served as secretary of the BSU at Centre, and she helped with special events including a Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration and a minority alumni reception at Centre's homecoming. Lynch considers the most successful event of the year to have been a Thanksgiving dinner held jointly with the International Student Association at Centre.

In the coming year, she intends to lead an emphasis on minority recruitment at the college.
