Centre's Tom McKune receives human rights award

DANVILLE, KY - On April 8, Tom McKune, director of advising at Centre College, was named the 1998 recipient of the Lucy Harth Smith-Atwood S. Wilson Award for Civil and Human Rights in Education. The award, named for two Kentuckians who broke new ground in equal opportunity, was presented by the Kentucky Education Association. Nominated for the award by the Danville Education Association, McKune is chairman of the Boyle County Human Rights Commission and is a member of Citizens Concerned for Human Relations. McKune also is in his second term on the Danville Board of Education.

McKune received his bachelor of arts degree at Trinity College and pursued doctoral studies at the University of Michigan. He has worked in higher education for 35 years, including 18 years at Centre.
