Men's Soccer Team Receives NCAA Bid

DANVILLE, KY-The Centre College men's soccer team has received an NCAA tournament bid to play in the South Region. The Colonels will play Greensboro College on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. (EST) in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Colonels were one of four teams in the country to receive an at-large bid.

Centre finished the season with a 15-3 record on the heels of a 2-1 overtime win over Washington University last Saturday. Washington University was the fifth ranked team in the South Central region. The win over the Bears enabled the Colonels to get in the tournament based

on schedule strength. The Colonels have played five teams ranked in the top thirty in the nation including Trinity (TX), Wheaton, Rhodes and Rockford. Only forty-four teams qualify for the tournament with 375 schools playing Division III soccer.

Coach Brian Chafin was extremely happy with the invitation. "Basically, some people don't understand the magnitude of getting into the NCAA tournament. A lot of hard work by the previous six classes here at Centre has been worth it. This shows our future student-athletes that

they can compete at Centre on a national level."

The Colonels have been led by senior Tony Arauz (St. Xavier High School) and junior Tanner Wann (Sayre High School). Arauz scored both goals in Centre's victory over Washington University and Wann has led the defense to seven shutouts this year.

If the Colonels advance, they will play at Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday.
