Centre's Sara Morgan Named to GTE Academic Team

DANVILLE, KY--Sara Morgan, a senior soccer player from Lexington, has been named to the GTE Academic All-District IV team for fall and winter at-large sports.

Morgan, a former Lexington Tates Creek product who was named the 1998 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Player of the Year last November, was a second-team pick on the All-Academic team.

She was the only player from a Kentucky school to make either the first or second team. Athletes in cross country, swimming, soccer, and field hockey with at least a 3.2 grade-point average were eligible for consideration.

District IV includes Kentucky, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee. Morgan broke her own SCAC scoring record as a senior with.26 goals, 10 assists, and 62 points. Her exploits on the soccer field earned her national recognition last winter in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd"section.

The daughter of Howard and Wanda Morgan of Lexington was a four-time first-team All SCAC pick and was a unanimous choice last season. Morgan led Centre to an 11-5-2 record. Centre College, coached by Gina Nicoletti, competes in the NCAA Division III South Region and is among the top 50 liberal arts institutions in the nation as selected by U.S. News & World Report magazine.
