Centre honors student for helping Humane Society
DANVILLE, KY -- Hopkinsville resident Carrie Morgan has been named April Volunteer of the Month at Centre College for her work supporting the Danville-Boyle County Animal Shelter. Inspired by a similar project she did while a student at Hopkinsville High School, Morgan collected donations of pet food for use at the shelter.
Working in cooperation with the shelter director, Morgan arranged for a few puppies from the shelter to be on display on the Centre campus for part of day during the food drive. The drive netted around 100 pounds of free pet food.
Morgan also has volunteered her time recruiting Centre students to volunteer at the Kentucky School for the Deaf. She arranged to have free sign language classes on campus to support the students who chose that volunteer assignment.
Morgan pursues her volunteer activities at Centre as an officer in Centre Action Reaches Everyone (C.A.R.E.). Through C.A.R.E., students lead a volunteer effort that annually places more than 60 percent of all Centre students with local agencies.
Morgan is a sophomore majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology. Her parents are April Jones of Hopkinsville and Thomas Morgan of Madisonville.
