Centre College student receives award for study abroad

DANVILLE, KY -- Sarah Shipley, a Centre College senior from Louisville, is one of 10 Kentucky college students chosen for a 1999 English Speaking Union Award. She will receive a scholarship covering all expenses for travel and study in England this summer.

Shipley is majoring in English and has earned academic honors including dean's list. She was chosen for membership in two academic honor groups based on her achievements in studying foreign language. Shipley is active in Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, has been a volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She has completed a semester of study in London as part of Centre's residential study abroad programs.

A graduate of Pleasure Ridge Park High School, Shipley is the daughter of Charles and Anne Shipley.
