DANVILLE, KY -- The Grammy-award winning musical, "Smokey Joe's Café," is coming to the Norton Center for the Arts on Tuesday, Feb. 2. The rollicking jukebox jam begins at 8 p.m. in Newlin Hall.
The performance is part of the 1998-99 Off-Centre subscription series at the Norton Center. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the box office. Hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays, or patrons may call 606-236-4692.
"Smokey Joe's Cafe" celebrates the rock 'n' roll legacy of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, songwriters whose work permeated the 1950s and 1960s. Those and a host of their other songs will come to life in the Norton Center production.
During its Broadway run, "Smokey Joe's Cafe" won a 1996 Grammy Award and seven Tony Award nominations.
The Norton Center for the Arts is a regional performing arts center which annually brings to Centre College a series of important musical groups, Broadway shows, individual performances and other works from the performing arts. A complete series scheduled and subscription is available upon request.
