Centre's men's soccer team earns national ranking
DANVILLE, KY-Centre College's men's soccer team is ranked 11th nationally in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, its highest ranking ever.
Coming off a pair of big conference wins on the road last weekend over Rhodes College and Hendrix College, Centre (9-0) is also ranked second in the NCAA Division III South Central Region . The Colonels also defeated NAIA power Transylvania last week.
In order to receive an automatic bid to post-season play, the Colonels must win the tough Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
"We're extremely happy to be ranked up there with the teams in the Northeast. This is a culmination of a lot of hard work by previous teams and this year's team, "said assistant coach Jeb Burch. "It shows the Kentucky kids that they can stay in the state and compete on the national level. Our team doesn't have any super stars. It's just a very dedicated and committed group,"Burch said.
Centre trails Wheaton in the South Central Region and Williams College in Massachusetts is the number one rated team in America. The Colonels will travel to Wheaton on Oct.23.
The Colonels are back to full strength with the return of all-SCAC performer Tony Arauz. Arauz made both goals in Centre's overtime win over Rhodes last weekend.
Centre will entertain Maryville this Saturday at 1 p.m..
